A pocket check is a business check kept in a portable checkbook cover rather than a desk binder. The checks themselves are full-size business checks. What makes them pocket checks is the format they come in: a slim vinyl cover you carry with you, holding your checks and deposit slips together.
The distinction matters because it is about where you pay, not what you pay for. A desk binder assumes payments happen at a desk. A pocket checkbook assumes they happen wherever you are, which for a lot of business owners is closer to the truth.
You write them by hand exactly as you would any manual check. There is no printer, no accounting software and no setup involved.
Who Uses Pocket Business Checks
Owners and managers who spend more time out than in. Trades paying for materials at a supplier counter. Anyone visiting sites, meeting contractors, or handling payments where waiting until you are back at the office is not practical.
They also suit businesses that keep a desk book for scheduled payments and want something portable alongside it for everything else. The two work together, provided you keep the check number sequences separate so reconciliation stays clean.
Singles or Duplicates
You choose between singles and duplicates when ordering, and it is worth thinking about rather than defaulting.
Singles give you a thinner, lighter checkbook, which matters if it genuinely lives in a pocket or bag. Duplicates create a carbonless copy of every check as you write it, so the record is captured automatically without you having to complete a stub.
Duplicates tend to make sense for payments made away from the office, because that is exactly where writing a full record is easiest to forget. If you are paying while standing in a supplier yard, a copy that makes itself is worth the extra thickness.
This is a complete checkbook rather than check pages alone, which is a genuine difference from our binder formats.
You receive your checks, deposit slips, and a vinyl checkbook cover that holds everything together and protects it from the wear a bag or glovebox inflicts. No separate binder purchase is needed.
The deposit slips are worth noting. If you are collecting payments while out as well as making them, having slips in the same cover means a deposit run does not require a separate trip back to the office first.
Pocket checks are supplied in a single quantity of 160 checks, which works out at around $0.94 per check.
That is higher per check than our desk formats, and the reason is what comes with it. You are receiving a complete checkbook including the vinyl cover and deposit slips rather than pages that need a binder bought separately.
If per check cost is your priority and portability is not, our three to a page desk formats bring it down considerably. Current pricing appears on this page as you order, and you can add additional checks to increase the saving.
A choice of check colors is available, selected during ordering. You see a layout preview before anything goes to production.
That preview is exactly what it says. Before printing, our team finalizes the alignment and removes the white background, so the finished check is properly set up rather than printed straight from the on screen version.
Want your logo on the checks? Email your artwork to sales@checksnextday.com with your order number in the subject line. Black artwork on a white background in BMP or JPG format reproduces most cleanly.
The honest answer is that most businesses eventually want both, but if you are choosing one, decide by where your payments actually happen.
If they mostly happen at a desk, a binder format gives you more checks for your money and better record keeping through perforated stubs. Accounts payable checks suit supplier invoices, payroll checks carry wage detail, and multi purpose checks handle everything else. All three are hole punched for a 7 ring binder.
If they happen out in the world, portability wins and the cost difference per check is small against the inconvenience of not having a checkbook when you need one.
Want something presentable for client facing payments? Executive deskbook checks are built with that in mind. Browse every handwritten option at manual business checks.
Running out of checks while you are away from the office is worse than running out at a desk, because you usually discover it at the moment you need to pay someone.
Ordering a replacement takes about five minutes if you have your bank details to hand. Keep an old check with you, or photograph the bottom edge, so the routing and account numbers are available when you need to reorder rather than requiring a trip home.
If your payments have shifted toward software since your last order, computer checks print directly from your accounting program. Using QuickBooks? See QuickBooks checks. Printing across several bank accounts? Blank check stock lets you add the bank details yourself.
Need checks on a personal account? See personal checks, or compare every format at business checks.
Four details complete the order: your bank routing number, your account number, your starting check number, and your business name and address as it should print. All four appear on an existing check drawn on the same account.
Routing and account numbers. Both sit along the bottom edge of any current check.
Starting check number. Continue your existing sequence so your records stay unbroken and your bank does not query duplicates. If you also keep a desk book, use a separate number range for each.
Business name and address exactly as it should appear on the face of the check.
Depositing on the move? An endorsement stamp is small enough to keep with the checkbook and speeds up the back of every check you deposit.
We have printed business checks since 1997. That is nearly three decades of doing one thing rather than maintaining a broad catalog, and it shows in how the checks are produced. Alignment is finalized by our team before printing and logo setup is included at no charge.
