Worth settling before you order, because blank checks work differently from every other check we sell.
Blank stock arrives without your bank details printed on it. No routing number, no account number, no MICR line. You add all of that yourself using check printing software and magnetic ink. That is what makes the paper generic until you print on it, and it is why one supply can serve several bank accounts.
If you print for a single account and would rather the bank details arrived already applied, you want pre-printed stock instead. Computer checks on top use the same top position layout but come ready to run with no magnetic ink and no additional software.
Choose blank stock when you print across multiple accounts, when volume makes the lower per check cost meaningful, or when you want control over the full face of the check.
Magnetic Ink Is Required
The line of characters along the bottom of a finished check is the MICR line. Bank processing equipment reads it magnetically rather than optically, which is why it must be printed with magnetic ink rather than standard toner.
This is the step people most often skip. Checks printed with ordinary toner frequently look correct and still get rejected or pulled for manual handling at the bank, which removes the time saving that made blank stock attractive in the first place.
If sourcing magnetic ink is more setup than you want, pre-printed stock arrives with the MICR line already applied. Our computer checks need no special ink at all.
Check Printing Software
You also need software capable of printing checks, since it lays out your bank details, payee, date and amount onto the blank sheet. Standard accounting software may handle this, or you may need dedicated check printing software depending on your setup.
Configure the layout to match top position, so the check body prints at the head of the sheet rather than anywhere else.
A Standard Printer
Any laser or inkjet printer handles this stock. What changes is the ink or toner cartridge, not the machine. Set your printer to print at actual size rather than scaling the page, and run a test on plain paper before committing real stock.
Top position places the check body at the head of the sheet with the remaining area available for remittance detail. It is the most widely used layout across accounting software, which makes it the safest starting point if you are configuring check printing for the first time.
Match the position your software expects rather than choosing by preference. If your setup prints the check body elsewhere on the page, we carry blank checks in middle and blank checks on bottom. For higher volumes, blank checks 3 per page fit three checks to a sheet.
Three quantities are available, and the saving scales steeply.
100 sheets. Around $0.80 per check.
250 sheets. Around $0.44 per check, our best value option.
500 sheets. Around $0.30 per check.
Stepping from 100 to 500 cuts your per check cost by well over half. No code or promotion is needed, since the saving is built into the quantity you select.
Blank stock rewards ordering ahead more than any other format, because the paper is not tied to a specific bank account. A larger order commits you to nothing except paper, so the only consideration is storage. Factor in your magnetic ink cost when comparing against pre-printed stock, since that is an ongoing expense blank printing carries and pre-printed does not.
Blank stock carries its security in the paper rather than the printing, because the printing has not happened yet. These sheets include many security features as standard, and a Security Features option is available during ordering if you want to review what is included.
Twenty color options are available, so the finished check does not have to look like plain white paper. Color choice matters more with blank stock than with pre-printed, since everything else on the check comes from your printer rather than from us.
Storage discipline is worth attention here too. Unprinted check stock is not tied to any account, which makes it a more attractive target than a box of pre-printed checks. Keep it locked away, log the sheets you hold, and reconcile against what you have printed.
This is the strongest argument for blank stock and the reason most businesses switch to it.
With pre-printed checks, every bank account needs its own box. Three accounts means three boxes, three reorder cycles, and three sets of stock to track. With blank stock, one supply covers all of them because the account details come from your software at the moment of printing.
That suits businesses running multiple entities, holding separate operating and payroll accounts, or managing client trust accounts where the separation is a requirement rather than a preference.
Blank stock needs less from you than pre-printed checks, because your bank details are added by your own software rather than by us.
Tell us the position you need, your color preference, and your quantity. There is also an Additional Comments or Instructions field at checkout if your setup has particular requirements worth flagging before we ship.
Mailing the checks you print? Add double window envelopes to the same order, sized so the payee and address show through correctly without refolding. An endorsement stamp speeds up the back of the check when depositing.
Blank stock gives flexibility and the lowest per check cost, at the price of needing magnetic ink and software. Pre-printed checks give convenience, at the price of one box per account.
